The Catch

The old year departs at a run;
Of grief or regret be there none.
Who would have believed
What has been achieved?
We've toddled once more round the sun!

So then, let us not be downhearted:
A foul year at last has departed.
It wasn't much fun,
But it's over and done -
A pity another's just started.

"As 'thirteen emerges to meet us
With 'Austerity''s spectre to greet us,
    Despite our grey rambles
    Through 'Dave''s Omnishambles,
Sing "Huzzah!", for we have a Royal foetus!"

'Tis true: 'mid the triple-dip gloom
    Of the Osborne economy tomb,
    The wraiths, now and then,
    Cry, "Redemption to men!
There's growth in the Middleton womb!"
