An Example to Us All

Citizens of somewhere other than nowhere will be reassured, if they know what's good for them, by the latest riveting developments in the ongoing saga of Britain's most hard-working family. The Queen Gawblesser, who recently responded to the award of a £2.8-million pay rise by deciding to do less work, had been importuned by a common cold and had therefore not taken the train to Sandringham, to the consternation of millions. Nevertheless, despite the state of her health, the Queen Gawblesser has been able to host a lunch for dozens of relatives at Buckingham Palace; the steadfastness of her fortitude will doubtless serve as a salutary example to the generations of proles being waited upon in their fur-lined food banks. With the foresight and prudence which characterises the deserving striver, the Queen Gawblesser has evidently made proper arrangements for her own medical care, rather than blocking beds on the NHS; so now the Queen Gawblesser has been flown to Sandringham, and the Christmas Day platitudes have been recorded in advance, and everything's all right.

i envy you brits your parliamentary system - it seems you yourself are not too fond of the royal family but at least you don't have years-long election campaigns - and next month our head of state is the donald - may the creative forces of the universe bless the united states of america

Under our Parliamentary system, almost no votes count; hence there is no real need for year-long official campaigns, although you wouldn't think it from the year-round hydrophobia of the majority of our Free Press. As in the Electoral College, a government can be elected without gaining a majority of the popular vote, and can then lie, cheat and steal pretty much as it pleases. The effect on all this our grinning and squeaking official Head of State is precisely nil.

And here is godzone we are an amalgam of the two, but with the similarities that votes cats does not necessarily equal what particular type of "representative" lands in the electoral seat. Back in "tha" day, many of our current crop would rightly have ended in Bedlam. And we do still share the Queen Gawblesser with the mother country, although an unknown proportion of us would gladly sever the apron strings.
